I changed breaks. Now ABS issue.
I went to pep boys and purchaced new rotors and ceramic pads for the front of my '04 F150 Supper Crew XLT. I have never replaced discs before as all my previouse vihicles had drums. It looked straight forward so I gave it a shot. Everything went together well. I did re-use the big nut holding the rotor on which states right on it that it should be replaced. As it has a cotter pin and it tightened right up I thought it would be OK. The thing is, now even when applying light break pressure the ABS kicks in. The ABS light comes on after the breaks have been applied a few times and stays on until the truck is turn off. I mention re-using the nut as it is the only deveation I (knowingly) made during install. I did not open the system, I used a C clamp to open the caliper and inserted the pads, removed/replaced the rotor, and re-assembled everything. I bought this truck new in 04 and this is the first time the breakes have been worked on. The truck has 46,000 miles on it. I have yet to replace the back breaks. I want to make sure I don't make the same mistake on the back end. Any ideas?
I was going to take the truck into the shop and let them figure it out. You definatly saved me a few bucks! I pulled the right front wheel and spun the rotor. Looking at the ABS ring in the back I noticed it was not turning true, it wobled. I located the low side and used a 2 foot breaker bar to bump it "UP". This insured the ring kept a constant distance from the sensor. The right side needed no adjustment.
