Hey guys.. i used the search and couldn't find much.. I just bought a 1971 F100 special custom.. It had an old grant steering wheel on it without a horn.. Well i went to install a new woodgrain wheel and horn and when I pulled the steering wheel off there's no wire(s). Theres a disc with a little hole on the top right edge of it and thats it... I can't figure out which wire at the base of the column is horn related... after the relay under the hood i loose sight of it or it changes colors. Need some help.. I'm debating wether or not just to hard wire the horn and bypass all of the ford wiring, but I don't know how to fix the issue of the wires twisting up inside the steering wheel (since the contact brush assembly wouldn't be used anymore).. ANY IDEAS... I"m stumped!!!
You can identify the wire using an ohmeter. Unhook the column harness at the base of the column; hook one lead from the meter to the horn brush, and touch the other lead to the wires-one at a time-in the column harness. When you find the one that gives you a reading of zero (closed circuit), this will be the horn wire.
Sorry for even posting this guys.. I was finally able to get that y shaped piece off the splines and noticed where the wire that was supposed to be attached to the contact pad was GONE... I also determined (As I found is a normal problem {and an easy fix with a click pen spring} the contact brush assembly was bad). Mods... you can delete this entire thread if you can...
