Why does my 03 F250 need two batteries.
I want to set my truck up for camping and need a auxiliary battery to power all today's modern comforts. Do I need to set up a third battery for this or can I suck the guts out of one of the two I already have.
The two batteries are to supply the power needed for starting. Between the Glowplugs, starter these trucks need a lot of power to start. On top of all of that your IDM needs to see 10.5 volts while cranking in order to fire the truck, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...y-q-and-a.html

You need to set up a third battery.
There are different types of batteries for different types of tasks.
The ones under the hood are not good at all for deep cycling.
.
What works the best for the use that you are looking for is two six volt deep cycle, (golf cart) type batteries connected in series.
They will last the longest and will handle the deep discharge that camping will do to the batteries.
Your truck batteries will die an early death if you try to use them like that.
