overdrive transmission

I'm rebuilding a 72 f100 with a 390 and c6 auto. Will a newer transmission with an overdrive fit.

not sure about the newer trannies but you could check out bolting on a gear vendors overdrive unit. it replaces the tail housing on your c-6 and gives a 27% overdrive.

In a word NO. There are no OE trannies to bolt to a FE.
There are builders that make a custom trans for them.(look in Custom Classic Truck mag.)
And I believe Advanced Adapters has a set up to mate a 700r4 to the FE.

Ford offered the Borg-Warner T-85N 3 Speed Manual Overdrive on 1965/72 F100's with FE engines.

The same trans was used in 1965/67 Galaxie/LTD's with FE engines.
