Okay oh great wizards of the Forum answers. Here is the short of it... shifts from 2 to 3 snap you like a launching F-18 or the Hornet. Then 3 to 4 has not the head jarring jolt, but a huge clunk.
What would be the cause and is it a complex repair or simple? I can drop the tranny pan and change filters etc.

Engine smooth as silk, transfer case operates as it should.
HELP!!!
As I'm sure this isn't good for the rearend or my hicky scared neck.
It could be a broken 2-3 accumulator spring.its designed to soften the 2-3 shift.
I-M Tech, thanks for the input. I'm thinking because of the high miles to go ahead and replace the valve body in the tranny. Does that include the sprinig you are talking about? Where could I find a diagram for this transmission and locate the spring you are talking about? If you have the time.
when you remove the valve body the 2-3 accumulator is at the rear of the trans.the cover and spring will fall out.i would install a new accumulator piston also.and while your there replace the 1-2 accumulator and spring also.do some research on the net or maybe someone can help lead u in the direction to find the info.

Great! Thanks again. Can this all happen with the tranny still in and accessed through the pan/valve body? I found a source for parts, just now need to find a tranny diagram.
