Fuel Pump question

Hi, i have had some serious low power and blue smoke problems lately. so i opened my fuel bowl valve and turned the key to see how much fuel is coming out, it is like a little stream i thought it would show some sort of pressure not just simply flowing out of the hose. I know the fuel filter is good but is that right? also my pump is dead silent when i turn the key on even with my ear next to it. could this be my problem? thanks for any info greatly appreciated.

Sure sounds like it!! You might check out the Walbro pump -- it's a nice upgrade for less than a stocker.

EDIT: Here's a linky:
http://www.aztpi.com/product.php?productid=41

EDIT2: You might also look into putting on a fuel pressure gauge. That's my very next mod....

It's not expensive if you get one that mounts under the hood. I have my gauge mounted next to the fuel bowl. It helped me determine that I had a bad fuel pump this winter. It only gets expensive when you get an electronic one with an isolation loop...

have you checked to see that you have power to the pump?
If not a new pump wont help.

I've got a used stock pump that I'll let go cheap. It was in great working order when pulled to part out the truck.

I got my fuel pressure gauge on order last week. Hopefully it'll be here in a few days!

Yeah, I'm going with a mechanical, and will mount it out by the driver's wiper (like Brandon & Ron).

before you go throwing parts at it, you had better use some diagnostics on that truck.

Blue smoke = oil most of the time.... could be injector O rings or low comression.

When you replaced the O rings did you follow the instructions precisely? Did you replace the upper Wire ring and spacer style ring or just the bottom 3 O rings?

yes sir i did replace them per ford service manual. Unfortunately i wasnt able to bring it into the shop today and run any tests but hopefully i can soon. And its getting to the point where i have very little smoke but if i stop on a grade and floor it i can barely hit 40 mph at around 3000 RPM and its just absolutely gutless so thats really what im trying to figure out.

LINK to my Photobucket pics of Walbro install. Not detailed but instructive. Be sure to read comments as well as annotation on the pics.

EDIT: I got mine off ebay from High Flow Fuel Systems. Under 120 delivered, but that was last August.

Ok well i heard that the ICP can make you have low power issues, poor fuel economy and blow blue smoke. so today i unplugged it and WHOA theres my power but i still have the blue smoke so would it be safe to assume that the ICP is bad? thanks for the help

Sure sounds like that could be your problem. I have a know good ICP sensor. I could send it to you for testing. PM me if you are interested.

Edit: Did the ICP connector have oil it it?
