transmission Growl??

transmission Growl??
I've got a 79 F-150 with a c6 and aftermarket trans cooler. the transmission growls when its cold or when you shift to reverse, also from neutral into drive, like you were coasting. Is the transmission going out or is this just an odd noise? i'm stumped. Thanks!
