Dash Removal Instructions

I'm looking to remove the dash in a 92 Aerostar to get at the climate control actuator. Any one have some precise directions?

I see that 45 plus people have read this. Tricky and touchy subject. I'm liquidating all of my stuff and vans in preparation of moving to Tucson Arizona. I took the "WHOLE" thing out last week of my 1993 Eddie Bauer.

Two ways I think you can do this.

First the easiest way-now this goes without saying "I don't know exactly what you want to do. The glove box is riveted into place. If you remove the tilt door allot of the climate controls are exposed. Since I was going for the "COMPLETE REMOVAL" the following is what I did in the removal of the dash.
You don't need to remove the whole thing like me to get to the climate area. Behind the windshield there is a painted metal panel "not" the padded dash area. About 6 Phillips screws. Some are hard to get to because they are angled inside of the defrost ducts. Simply take a no. #2 Phillips apex bit and put it inside of a socket/ratchet set-up. When you remove the panel you will see that there are about six angled "to you" Phillips screws. Once you undo these the dash will want to let go.

Now, once you have removed the "kick panel" from the drivers side you will notice 2 large nuts-don't remember exactly-either around 7/8" size or about 15 mm. On the pass. side gently remove the panel covering the computer. You will see another set up just like this. Once you have done this the whole dash will want to roll toward the pass. compartment. Do this and then the weather climate control area will be exposed.

Hope I have helped. If you have more questions I have the dash laying in the back of my van and can pin point all areas.--boz

I seem to remember when I took out the dash on my 91 that once all the fasteners were removed that the front (near the windshield) part of the dash was slipped over a small pin for alignment purposes (check the Haynes manual, there is a pic there). I distinctly remember that because I was worried working by myself, if I was going to be able to line up all the screw and bolt holes. Also, disconnecting all the wiring harnesses from their attachment points on the dash are a pain, especially if you have a trip computer. The harness to the push buttons on the lower dash panel is hard to disconnect.
