i'm wondering what i can do internally to make the motor stronger and better. I don't want to sacrifice starting ability, and don't want to spend a pile of money. What have you guys done and the estimated cost (if you want to share). I can basically do anything to the motor as i have a Ford mechanic hired for me now. I don't want to go to far, i'm not sled pulling. I'm just looking to do a bit to make it better and get a little power. I don't want to do the turbo yet (38R someday), but i may be intrested in making the stock turbo better. For the tranny i'm just going to put a valve body on and maybe a 6.0 cooler. i've already done intake, exhaust, and am in the process of ordering a DP tuner (gauges also). what would you guys do, i'd like to do internal first, then do injectors. At what time would i be best off to get a updated HPOP?
Sorry for all the questions, i thought rather then making multiple threads it would be easier.
I'm looking for opinions from you guys who know what to do.
Although I am the last one to be discussing diesel performance...my readings on here lead me to believe the weakpoint in these motors (if you want to call it that) are the rods. I believe the factory rods are cast and not good for a bunch of hp...400hp seems to be the breaking point. Most guys that do a build for performance on here use a forged rod...the crank is probably a heavy as hell strong as hell cast crank that would take alot of punishment.
Upgraded valve springs, pushrods, head studs and head gaskets could be in store depending on just how much HP you want to build up to. The list could be very extensive based on your wants and needs.
If you pick the right tuner, spend $1000 on head studs and valve springs, and you can be well on your way to a stock bottom end that can reliably hold 550hp.

that sounds alright.
When am i going to need a better HPOP? And up to what point are my stock injectors good for? But i am wondering what you guys think you have for ponies with exhuast with or without 4" DP, 6637 and a DP tuner on 120, auto tranny (stock). Just so i know how far i have to go from there. A lot of things i have read say chip, exhaust and intake can get you a 100 horse on these motors, i don't know how true it is, but i noticed with the exhaust and intake it gave it some extra power, not that much but some, so i'm thinking with the chip it will make a difference.
You will see about a maximum on a well supported, stock-injectored engine, about 320-330hp. A little injector work, easy 400-420 without changing anything. Change the turbo, you can get 500 or so on the stock HPOP.
