P/S Bracket Vs. Waterpump
I'm planning to install a eaton power steering pump.
Every time I see the bracket there is a big waterpump bolt that blocks the outlet hole. What if I need this for my transmission cooler?
Or is this bolt only used when the pump oulet is not in use or plugged?
I have that bracket on mine.
What bolt are you talking about and why would you need a connection on the water pump for the trans cooler?
My plan is to use an air to air trans cooler with it's own fan on it similar to the one below

Are you using a separate water-oil heat exchanger?
That bolt on the water pump DOES help hold the bracket on the pump. You can draw coolant off the pump from the other side if you want I suppose. run your heat exchanger in series with the heater core.
Water to oil heat exchangers don't do all that good a job of cooling the trans fluid because the coolant is at engine temp. If you're a little tight on the radiator (size), you only dump more heat into the coolant from the transmission. That's why I'm using a HUGE Hayden air-oil cooler with it's own temp controlled fan.
On the other hand, if you're not going to produce a lot of heat (1/2 ton pickup that will never tow) you could use just about anything (or nothing)
