Thumbs up HFCM light

Well it seems the fuel/water light in the instrument panel really works! I've been pulling my 5'er for the past 3,000 miles (2,000 left to go until I'm home).

Today about 60 miles from my camp site in Howard, CO, I had stopped for lunch. When I started the motor the water/fuel light came on. Crap! Now what. I don't know this for sure but tank before last I bought fuel in Clovis, NM and it was 5% bio-diesel.

So anyway, set up camp and found I hadn't packed a 6mm allen wrench. (IH brass plug is still on my work bench waiting next filter change.) Borrowed wrench from another camper, drained fuel into one of wife's tupperware bowls (sorry honey, did I tell you that you can't get the diesel stink out?) and low and behold there was about a table spoon of water mixed with the still green fuel. Refueled about 200 miles ago with deno diesel since using bio fuel but it still came out green.

Started motor and no more light!!!! Every thing worked just like it is suppose to. Love it. Love this truck, pulls like a mule!

Leonard

Better pick up an allen wrench when you get a chance - there may be more water in the tank.

run some power service in your next fill up, it will help rid any water.

I did something like that once...cost me a dozen roses and dinner at an Italian restaurant she loves just to get out of the dog house. But now I have a really nice bowl to drain the fuel into when I change the HFCM filter!

Im assuming you run the white bottle in the winter, they make diesel kleen which is in a grey bottle, I run that in every tank in warmer months and white in every tank in the winter, I have never had a WIF light.

Neither have I, and I also run PS every tank. If it didn't light up when I start the truck I might have thought it was broken!
