We had a salesman at work that was texting while walking, and he walked right into a sign that was bolted to a wall. Cut his head open good and dropped him to his knees.
I was laughing so damned hard I had to go outside, and get away, so that I didn't end up fired.
Case in point: A friend of my g/f's totaled her S#!tbox honda civic after she slammed into someones concrete mailbox post while texting! And the dumbazz had just gotten a dui a week earlier. some people just dont get it!
Most of those seem to have a short minimum range. I might look a little suspicious holding it out the window trying to increase the range a bit.
Problem is, text messages are more of a burst type transmission, so unless you're driving next to them for an extended period of time, I don't think this would be of much use on texters. If you find one that will work, let me know. I just might buy one.
The down side to the accelerometer, or GPS trigger would be for the passengers. My wife likes to text while we're going somewhere. If she had that feature on her phone, I'd be forced to talk to her or something.
Texting, eating, drinking, lighting cigarettes, make up application, nose picking, loud music, tvs from anywhere in vehicle, cb radios, frisky girlfriends/boyfriends, pets on laps, screaming kids....they are all distractions that have caused wrecks.. Outlaw em all.
In North carolina it violates a state law to do anything while driving that can cause a distraction. This law has been in effect for many years yet few policemen enforse it. Cell phones however are being shown to be much worse as far as causing accidents.I think a very large fine and or special driving classes for anyone a cop sees holding a phone while driving....I hate cell phones because about 90% of the time the calls arent inportant yet EVERYONE has to have one it seems.
As i said having a blocker strong enough to kill calls within about 10 feet would solve it.Maybe not give anyone under 21 a drivers license if he has a phone and doesnt take a special safety class and also charge him MORE for insurance if he has a phone.

So what is the point of making more laws if they won't be enforced?
Just start enforcing those that are already on the books.
True ship boy, but if laws weren't broken we wouldn't need cops except to keep a few pastry hang outs in business.
Texting is just the new gripe. I was rear ended once by a guy who was cleaning his nails. I have seen people knitting, reading, and even throwing the ball around their van for their dog to play fetch. Ever see a vehicle in front of you swerve sharply and then you see the driver sit back up and throw the burger they just splooged down the front of them out the window?
Hey billy12360, what's the difference if you are drinking and driving or texting.I personally feel the crime should have the same punishment. You are basically impaired.I'm being nice to cell phone users because they are not drunk but choose not pay attention.I almost got t-boned in my sentra by a guy in a peterbilt roundind a turn.He had to drop the phone and grab the wheel.Texting and cell phone use (without handsfree) should be outlawed. Why should it be any less of a crime to kill someone while texting than being drunk?
That would be prior restraint. ANY form of prior restraint goes entirely against freedom and none should should allowed.
If the actions of a person texting causes physical harm to another human being or property then the consequences should be very dire. This type of deterance would be the best solution while still keeping freedom intact. And it would be much more effiecient, as many people will not care about this law just like they don't care about the no cell phone while driving law in states where it's already been inacted because they might only have to pay a petty ticket.
Seriously. im 22 and as much as I like to "play" in my truck an dgo muddin and occasionally drift around corners...cars are not toys and they are dangerous and I wish people would hang the f%#@ up and drive! if you wanna wrap yourself around a tree fine but why take down innocent people with ya?
