No Start in PARK

There's been a few times where after parking and putting the Transmission in PARK,I goto start the truck and theres nothing ..
Dropping the gearshift to Neutral works though
I checked the Battery Cable,it's brand new and was just cleaned and tightened recently, everything was good.
Any ideas as to what this could be?!?!

MLPS on the side of the trans is shot, fairly common issue really. Or it may have just loosened up and is in need of adjustment, if you're lucky...

when in park how does the indicator read? try pulling the gear shift all the way up and starting. sometimes the guide wire for the indicator needs to be realligned (simple to do) or the bracket that holds it on is loose (simple to tighten). happens at work all the time.

get under the dash and make sure the shift linkage is connected securely. Mine dropped a bolt on my foot one day and i didnt know where it came from until i couldnt start the truck. Got under there and saw it was loose so i reinstalled the bolt and tightened the other one and it went into park fine. It will start in neutral all the time, so essentially it isnt going into park, so check it out.

Well, that indicator is just that, an indicator, it don't matter what it reads as long as the truck really is in "park", and that shouldn't be something you rely on the indicator for... The MLPS is the one that allows the truck to start in park and neutral, so if the trans does indeed engage "park" then the MLPS is to be looked at.

All that said, how do you adjust that darn indicator? Mine is off somewhat, it goes into park before the shifter does, and when in neutral it actually points almost in reverse... I'm used to it, but tis kinda annoying.

Yeah this sooke is a great place bro, very relaxed and just a but country for me. I came from Panhandle area Florida, so lots of rednecks. As for the shifter, mine said i was in park too but it wasnt, the lever was all the way up but since the bolt was out it wasnt really in park. Best luck bro!

It could be the neutral safety switch. I had to jiggle the lever (up or down) to get mine to start. I did that for nearly 6 months when I went to a friends house and came out in the dark, in the rain, parked in the mud....... well you get the idea. It wouldn't go. After replacing it I disassembled it and there are 2 "pills and springs" that cause the contact for the current. One had decided to go visit the other. Mine has a C6/Gear Vendors so it's exactly the same but totally different. Or is it exactly different but totally the same....Either way it's pretty cheap and easy to change. I hope this helps and good luck.

MLPS is the manual lever position sensor or the shift lever position sensor.

On the automatic it controls starting in park and neutral as well as the back up lights.

Should be where the shifter linkage attaches to the transmission.

But that info is from a manual tranny person, I think I remembered it right though.

Ok I got under the truck last night and everything is connected and tight.
Nothing loose.
I'll take a pic and post in a bit.
I'm also going to look on the column and under the dash for anything out of place.
BTW worked yesterday,no problems with it not starting.
Seems intermittent ..

On my C6 it's on the drivers side of the transmission where the linkage attaches and has a 2 or 3 wire connector. It was kind of "D" shaped. If I remember right, when I opened up the old one it had 2 contacts (maybe more) that I assume were for the PARK and NEUTRAL selector positions. If yours is adjusted correctly then it probably puked the PARK "pill" out. Mine did that and wedged it so that NEUTRAL couldn't make contact either. Good point on the back up lights too. Mine didn't work when I bought the van and just figured it was a ground gremlin. Dead wrong. Replaced the switch and everything worked. Just make sure you mark the position on the linkage before you take it apart (assuming it is adjusted properly) otherwise you will be messin' with it for awhile. BTW I think it was around 40-45 buck$.

Wow okay so item number "aawwww hell i lost count." Now my truck is doing this, i think this thread rubbed off on mine. So here is where i sit, it will start sometimes with no issue, other times i have to pull it down to drive then back to park and it will start. I doubt seriously this is batteries like i found other places so i am guessing the mpls from what others have said here? My reverse lights havent worked since i bought it. Where can i find out the replacement proceedure? Thanks a million fellas!
