Hey, my truck has had a bit of a tough life for about 4 years. Well I am in the process of bringing the truck back to life. I have a 99.5 with leather interior. I need new front seat covers. I want to get the seats redone, but I really would like to get the leather with the raised word "lariat" in the back portion of the seats again. It isn't stitched in, it is like embossed into the leather....I will need the uppers and lowers for both the passenger and driver side seats. If I get them, I want to drop them off and get the seats restuffed. With a 168K on the odom, I think the driver is due for new cushion on the rear.....Any thoughts I would appreciate it.
The only though I have, and this is because I've sort of looked casually into the same thing....
... and here's the thought.... "$$$ouch$$$".
I've looked around on eBay, and the next step is to check out a local auto/furniture upholstery shop where I hope I can find a better quality leather at the same or reduced price. That may honestly be a dream, though.
Yeah, I have looked on Ebay too. The only thing that I found was stitched....still was close to around $400 or $500 for both seats....I wish I could find a factory leftover supply of them somewhere....
Keep watching ebay. You'll see seat covers on there from time to time. I've got cloth seats, but was able to pick up a complete set of "new" covers from a shop that had taken them off of 02 & 03 trucks to put in custom leather. Only my drivers seat cover was worn, but for the price, I went ahead and did all the seats.
I purchased a new seat bottom cushion from Ed (ftepartsguy) and I swear I sit about 1" higher in my truck than I used to. Didn't realize the old cushion had worn down so much.
I think it was around $75 or so. 2 weeks after putting it in, I had to drive to Lafayette (6 1/2 hrs). If I had known how much of a difference it made, I would have been willing to pay full price for it (don't tell Ed that part )
I luckily have one of the best upholstery shops there is right up the road from me. I took him my seats and he recushioned them, fixed the lumbar on the driver's seat, and was able to match the leather perfectly. Since the upper seat backs were still good, he kept those so the Lariat stitching is still there and made it look like a perfect brand new seat. There's merely a slight difference in the shading since new was matched to old, but you have to look for it to notice, which I don't now. It was $150 for each seat.
I'd find a good upholstery shop and make them new again, I know my back thanks me for it. I was really surprised that it was possible to do, but the stitching and all matched up perfectly. I just kept commenting on it and couldn't believe my eyes. He just looked at me like I was nuts and said it really wasn't a big job at all. He was done in half a day.
