a friend of mine just bought a 1965 F100 long box, pretty nice solid old truck, with lots of potential.but we are questioning what size inline 6 it has,its a 3spd manual.is there just the one engine offered or a couple of different ones,is there anything specific we should look for.the engine isn't siezed and he would like to at least get it to run before he tears the truck apart.thanks in advance for any information you guys may have for us.
northeaster79,
There were two strait sixes offered that year. One was a 300 and the other was a 240. Not sure what the differences are but I know that the code that is on the door panel has an engine code on it. I would ask NumberDummy to decode the number on the warrenty plate and that will tell you what you have (If its original). Good luck with your new project.
thanks jrb65,I figured it was a 240 but someone told him it was a 223,I never heard of that one,it doesn't look like any 300 I ever saw,but I've been wrong before, once or twice lol.I got the info of the door tag at lunch and I'll see what I can do with it,the engine code is SS and it says the trans is 4spd,but its got a 3 in the tree now,I can't imagine anyone making that swap.who knows.
I have the vin and other info,if anyone can decode it I would be greatful
VIN-4991028L-206566A
TRIM-12
PAINT-JJ
ENGINE-SS
and it says trans is 4spd,but its a three in the tree, and the axle says its a 3:25
thanks in advance for any more great info into this truck.
Post the engine block numbers as well; should be located on passenger side near and above starter. This will help determine block year.
Some will argue with me bot this does give a good reference to determine type of engine as well..
