Question What Is This???

It is mounted right in front of the driver side batt. Inside the heat shield is what appers to be a ceramic resistor.

Beats me, man!!! I have nothing like that in my truck. Is there wiring going to/from it that can be traced?

Is that a Ford part number on it? The number is upside down.

It is a part number. I used PhotoShop to flip it and zoom in but can't make it out.

I'll have to remove it and try a magnifying glass.

Another early 99 difference????

I think it a Flux Capacitor. Sorry I couldn't help myself. I will look tomorrow and see if it is on my truck.

Looks to me like one of those ceramic resistors with a heat shield around it. Not sure what circuit it's for specifically, but that's what it "looks" like to me.

Does your truck have daytime running lights? Mine does and I have it also. I believe it's the resistor for them.

Is your truck from the Republic of California? "Big Brother" may be watching you.

Damn good thought. I do have DRL. I bet you are right. I'm going to put the DRL resistor fuse back in and see if I have them when I pull the connector on this Whatsit.

I knew it was a ceramic resistor but didn't know what it was for.

It was actually first sold as a Canadian truck. It's got a Canadian door sticker. Had to have DRL for export to Canada. It HAD a cat converter too.

How did I miss this thread?? It is a resistor for the DRL. It is used to drop the voltage to the lights so that they are partially illuminated for DRL. I had to change one out on another truck before.

Thanks Jim.

I had to relocate it to make room for my Performax Gauge ECM and wanted to know what I was moving. If unplugged will I have headlights?

Edit: I guess that will be easy enough to determine tomorrow.
