Looks to me like one of those ceramic resistors with a heat shield around it. Not sure what circuit it's for specifically, but that's what it "looks" like to me.
Does your truck have daytime running lights? Mine does and I have it also. I believe it's the resistor for them.
Damn good thought. I do have DRL. I bet you are right. I'm going to put the DRL resistor fuse back in and see if I have them when I pull the connector on this Whatsit.

How did I miss this thread?? It is a resistor for the DRL. It is used to drop the voltage to the lights so that they are partially illuminated for DRL. I had to change one out on another truck before.
I think this may be the answer. Mine also had DRL , but took the fuse out..

It was actually first sold as a Canadian truck. It's got a Canadian door sticker. Had to have DRL in Canada.

I had to relocate it to make room for my Performax Gauge ECM and wanted to know what I was moving. If unplugged will I have headlights?
Edit: I guess that will be easy enough to determine tomorrow.
