Plow

I see a fair number of dentsides behind barns and houses in my area some of them still have snow plows on although they have not moved in some time. I could really use one of those plows.

I don't want to drag home one those trucks to discover the plow won't fit on mine.

I have a 1977 F250 vin is F26SLY52299 build date April 1977

Does anybody know what year truck I should look for?

plow application

My understanding is the 73-77's have different mounts than the 77.5-79's. I think you have a 77.5 but someone correct me if I'm wrong. If your trucks aren't the same height off the ground, you may run into fabrication issues with the plow. If you buy a truck that sits and looks just like yours, you should be fine. Depends how much you like to weld...

Your '77 is a "late" truck so to speak.

You want to look for one from 1978/79 F-series.

I know about Fisher...

Not sure about the other brands, but Fisher made push plates (the part that is different and mounts to a specific vehicles frame) for the 77.5-79. I got them from a friend and it took minor mods (if you can cut and weld) to make it fit my 69 F250. The did not make an push plates specifically for any years older than the 77.5-79 to my knowledge.

You can still find these plates with some diligence on ebay or craigslist and may even be able to find them new somewhere if you call all around the country to Fisher dealers. Many of them still have them buried in warehouse somewhere. If I recall, there was a large east coast dealer that still had several sets - maybe in Maine, Vermont, or Mass - don't remember. Once you have the plates, then you can pretty much use any of the older conventional Fisher plows you find.

Also, do yourself a favor and get one with an electric pump. I have the manual pump that runs off a belt to the crankshaft, but while functional, there isn't enough power to raise it quickly at idle & reving the motor to get the plow to move sucks. It's still functional, but definitely inferior to an electic pump.
