did they make that?

hey guys...i came across a 91 f-150 for sale, and the owner says it has a 4-bolt 351. it's not the original motor, said it was put in it after the original threw a rod...but i was unaware that ford ever made a 4 bolt anything...i'm more of a 300 guy myself, if it's not a diesel, so i'm not too knowing about these v8's...anyone heard of this deal?

The only 4 bolt 351s were SOME 351C Boss blocks, as per info here:

Kelly hotrod - Ford Engines Page 2

Other 4 bolts would be late 406s, most 427s, Boss 302s, CJ/SCJ/PI & I assume Boss 429s.

None to be had on factory 351w's.

Mod motors--that's another story.

Back to this engine. If it is a 4 bolt motor, is he featuring this as a value-adder? If so, he needs to prove it up.

Can you determine what engine it is? And if it is not an OEM type engine, can you satisfy yourself that the swap was done properly?

It would unusual to find a 4 bolt 351C in this vehicle, but not impossible.

ya, the guy definitely isn't trying to get some extra coin out of this feature...had it for sale on craigslist since april and was advertised for $3400 and is now down to $2800. as far as the motor preplacement being done properly, idk if he did it himself or if a shop did...i called about it for a friend that's interested, but not mechanically inclined. he said he bought the engine from american auto parts, i wonder if they would have documentation verifying that it is in fact what he claims it to be.

here's the link, if u wanna see some pictures of it:

1991 f150 new engine, 4x4

thanks for your input!

Ford and others do make a 4-bolt main 5.8/351 block but it's an aftermarket performance piece costing about what a complete replacement motor usually costs. It's possible the truck has a 4-bolt block but not very likely.
