That makes sense. I found some fiberglass wrap thats good for 1200 deg continuous at a local parts shop. Do you use something similar or is there a better ceramic or silicon product out there?
When I installed my dp and exhaust this spring, I used the old heat insulation from the original dp. I used 3 hose clamps and used a pair of tin shears to cut it as needed and used a hammer to mold it as needed. I covered from the turbo to the slip joint in the dp. It took probably 20 minutes but was free. It was a tight fit and I had to adjust the adjusting part of the clamp a few times but has been doing good since Easter.
The reason I covered it was to keep the heat away from surrounding areas and in theory if the heat is kept in the pipe, the faster the gas will move.
I thought the worst part of the job was cutting and bending the firewall seem. If I had a portapower at the time, I think it would of gone a lot faster.
Hey wildstang... I think I'm going to use the original heat shield as you did. As you said it's free. I've been priceing insulation locally and it's at least $50.00. I'm stuck using a prybar on my firewall seam as well. Hopefully I'll have this job done soon. I've alloted two days just in case something goes south. I'm gutting the EBPV at the same time as well.
