Anything is possible with a grinder and a welder!

My memory is fuzzy, but I think somebody else did the same thing not too long ago. Try the search feature.

Ya, you can. I have a 79 short bed that was done too. It actually had long box sides cut down to fit and put on a later (like about 90 I think) box. Putting long sides on a long box would be easier. The tail gate hardware on the newer beds is different though. I'm sure someting can be done I just haven't got to that yet. I was thinking I might be able to put an older style skin on the newer tailgate.

The insides of the beds are the same from 73-97. With that being said. I am an 80s man so i know 80's. 80-82 uses one tailgate hardware. 83-86 uses another tailgate hardware. 87-97 uses another. I believe 80-82 is the same as the 70's

Thanks for the info. That should help when I go to address the tailgate issue. The hardware on the box I got is definitly different than 73- 79. I don't know what year the box is cause I bought it on a local truck that I got for parts. But the work was done in a body shop where a buddy of mine works. So I do know that it was done right. He's not a truck guy so he doesn't know the year of the donor box, just that it was a newer one.

The 1980-1982 Tailgate hardware is different, than 1973-1979. But they are simular in looks and function.

The taillight/tailgate pillars are also different, but can be modified.

But if you use the taillight/tailgate pillars off the 1973-1979 bed, as well as the outer bedsides, it would be the easiest.

The floor, the front wall and inner bedsides are interchangeable and havent changed much between 1973-1996-select 97 etc.
