So i was looking around on craigslist the other day and found an 88 f250 ext cab, just the cab. so i call him up and see what he wants for it, he said get it outta my yard and u can have it. picked it up today gave me the tittle too. also scored a 92-96 front clip. then he asked if i wanted the frame roller by. ive got some questions here. i plan on building a short bed prerunner. how much more does a 460 weigh over a 302 or 351? how do i swicth xcab side windows out for 1 pieces.and whats the differnce between the f150 and 250 frames ill try to post up some pics
good score!.... the only thing I know is the 150 and 250 frames are the same... unless it's a F250 HD then the frame is beefed up... the same as the F350.... at least thats what I've been told.
i think it just a reg 250 frame it didnt look beefed up at all. How should i go about shortning the frame to get a short bed wheel base. i dont really care about havin to reiforce the frame.
I thought I remembered someone mentioning that LD F250 where likely to have semi-floating 10.25 rear ends where the HD F250 have a full floater 10.25 rear ends.
which is better im thinking about putting the rear end and front end in my f150
If you are worried about breaking an axle, then the full floater shines as the wheel is held in place by bearings at the end of the tube whether there is an axle there or not. So the weight is carried by the wheel, bearing and then axle tube, where the weight is carried by the wheel, axle shaft, bearing, then the axle tube in a semi-floater. If you break the axle shaft on the semi-floater, there isnt a way to retain the wheel on the vehicle. Either way the 10.25 is rated for more weight than the 8.8 so it is an upgrade with either.
I vote for the 10.25 as well... even if ya have to fine one at the wrecker there a way heavier diff... literally!...lol
I think it might be better to take the 250 frame and shorten it and swap all the body over to it rather than try to put the ttb and the rear diff in the front of your 150...sounds like you will swapping the cabs over any ways and updating the front clip...but I might be wrong... as I don't know how difficult it is to swap a leaf sprung ttb into a F150 frame, which is coil sprung. might be easier to swap it, but I dont know... hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in. Or post a thread here or in the 4x4 forum on 4x4 conversion.
as for how to shorten a frame... I have know idea... I would imagine there is a good way and a bad way to do it... might post a thread and see if any one here knows.
just realized that I just wrote nothing of any value! haha, oh well now I'm at 387 posts!...lmao
