hi i have a 93 f150 with the 5.0 and the e4od transsmition when i go out and drive the tuck while it is cold it will shift through all of the gears on its own but as it starts to warm up i have to start shifting manualy but when it hits operating temp i only have first and second gear help!!!!!! plz
Have you checked the fluid with the engine hot, idling in park, on a level surface? What was the level? What was the color when you put it on a white paper towel? Does it smell burnt? Have you pulled any diagnostic trouble codes? Have you checked the wiring harness(es) for loose connections, wear points or potential shorts?
i have looked at the trannsmition fluid level and it was on the perfect line it did not smell burnt but i will have to look at conections but highly unlikely cause we had went through the motor and wires a little while ago but i will check anyway
Short of any trouble codes, I would start leaning towards a pump and or torque converter problem, like my F250 has. When the fluid is cold, it's thicker and builds pressure more easily, but once it warms up and thins out a bit, the worn pump and/or TC can't push it to the pressures it needs to have. That, or you have some valve body or solenoid issues (seals and such), that respond to the same fluid temperature differences.
i have not been able to get any trouble codes yet i do have a computer but it will not give me any codes i know that i do have a very extreamly slowwwwwww tranny leak but i keep a eye on that i have not had to add any tranny fluid yet do you also know if there is a blow off valve on the tranny the one day i was hauling with it i accidently left the overdrive on and when i pulled over there was a constant line of fluid pouring out of it i put more fluid back in and then i drove home i looked at it the day after and i could not see where it was coming from
I absolutely agree with changing the fluid and filter!!! DON'T HAVE IT BACK FLUSHED!!!!
Just do it the old-fashioned way, drop the pan, replace the filter, drain the converter, and add MERCON V synthetic fluid, you will have about $75 bucks in this, and I think you will be OK......
now when i first had this problem i imeadiatly changed the fluid and the filter but i used dextron 111 is this a worthy fluid or do i drain and try again
i drained mine, torque converter as well, new filter, 16 qts. mercon v... still the same. although,, there was a lot of metal on the magnet and throughout the pan. looked as if it was never changed. does not slip, once in gear, just has trouble shifting. ..?? ( overdrive works)
see now when i did the tranny flush you know drain the fluid and filter and put new in i cleand off the magnet and cleand everything but the tourqe converter i was having this problem about two weeks before i had done the flush i thought that it might fix the problem but it didnt i still have yet to take tourqe converter out but i plan on doing that soon
