Question MPG question with DPtuner?

I just finished the family vacation to Alabama to see great grandparents, grandparents and just to get away. All of which are from the wife's side of the family. They are out in no where farm land which is great. We all had a blast. That's the short version.

To the question at hand about MPG's.

So I purchased the DP, and installed it for the trip about two days before leaving and didnt have time to play around to much. What is my expected MPG's with the 80e on? keep in mind I dont beat up my truck really at all.

So the first time I filled up the over head console digital thing went to like 999 to empty, and I was like what the hell. Thinking something was wrong. I was traveling anywhere from 65mph low side to 75mph high side for a total of 1600 miles. As I said before its out in the counrty and there is no stop and go traffic. So when I got home and added the total gas and the looked at the milage I did the math.

total diesel spent $155.00. total milage driven 1600. average diesel price $2.10. gallons on gas 73.8. The estimated of 21 mpg.

Is the above information correct? Now if you do the math from the 999 to empty which i was getting and the 44 gallon tank it came out to 22 mpgs est.

The funny part is that 1600 miles that I drove this past week usually takes me just under 2 moths to drive back home.

Thanks,
Al

If you drove a total of 1600 miles and used a total of 73.8 gallons of fuel, the you got 21.68 miles per gallon, which is great. Any tuner or chip with screw up your overhead console, so don't bother counting on that except for temps and directions. The 999 was there because it couldn't go to 1000 or more.

I can only dream about 21 MPG. Even tho my lie-0-meter is saying I'm getting 26.9 right now. Heck, I was getting 57.7 MPG at one time.

Until this past Saturday, I wouldn't have believed it possible. I got 21.87 on my 360 mile trip to the beach. Best ever for me. I ran 80E the entire way.

I got 19 on my last tank. I keep hearing about the magical 20s with the DP tuner, but I haven't been able to keep my foot out of it yet. Maybe one day I can show restraint.

I see 20mpg running empty with a bed cover and keeping the speed under 70mph. I've kept track of milage since I've had the truck, and the bed cover added about 1mpg on the highway. I don't have a tuner, and the only 'mods' are the 6637 and a muffler delete pipe.

The best fuel saver is slowing down, though.

It looks like he is a 2wd Excursion from his sig, so he has 3.73 gears which is probably lower than your 4x4, also the kind and size of tire will make a big difference...

I am driving to CA this later this week so it will be the first long distance run... hopefully I'll get a nice MPG

Mine still has the 3.73's in it, I try to be easy on the go pedal. I don't often check my mpg because it costs too dang much to fill my 50+ gallon tank, but I'd be flat **** floored if I was getting over 18-19.

Mine has been climbing slowly the last couple weeks. Typical winter driving is 16.5-17 MPG and last night it came to 17.9973, close enough to 18. My lie-o-meter shows 18.3 but I only use it for indication there may be something wrong. If it suddenly starts dropping, usually means something is dirty or wrong.

I really thought I was wrong when I did the math. Prior to the install of the dp, I really never did the math on it but the overhead digital unit said 13.2 mpg's. I didnt know you would be able to achieve the numbers of 21mpg's est.

We were driving at night and the cruise control was set at 70mph. We were at 65-75 when behind truckers and for passing.

MPG is the reason i haven't got the DP yet..Worried. I got 19.33 weeks ago. and my last fill up, last weekend, i got 16.9. But i pulled my 5vr 45 miles out of the 300 i went. All city driving. Last summer on thru way, cruise locked on 2k rpm, I was getting 22/24 all the way home from Florida and i don't want to mess up my great MPG's.. So if you get the X up to 21. that is awsome and makes me feel better about getting that DP.. It is on my wish list now for sure.

The tuner will not hurt our mileage, however the desire to use the extra power could. Like I said earlier. I just got 21.87 mpg on my trip. Rack on the front, bed loaded, hitch hauler on the back. That is not the norm, but it did happen.

I blame my big fat right foot and stupid grin for not getting better mileage with my DP.

The best I've done is 18.1 mpg on a tank. Now that winter fuel is gone, I will monitor it again.
