Tricky... Here goes...
94 F150 4x4 302 with dual tanks.
Intermittenly, the truck idles really rough. I can tell when this is going to happen before I start it up as the fuel pump will run continuously. Usually, it runs for about 1.5 seconds before I start the truck. 50% of the time I will turn the key to the on position, prior to a full start, and the fuel pump will start to run, but it will run contiueously. Then I will start the truck, and it will idle really rough. The other 50% of the time, the pump will run for about a second, shut off, I will start the truck and it will idle just fine. It doesnt matter which tank I start from. Anyone have any ideas of where to start chasing my problem down?
The time the fuel pump runs, and the idle are both controled by the ECU. I'm thinking you probably have a bad ground that is ok sometimes, and sometimes not. Before I did anything else, I would clean and retighten all the grounds I could get to, and check the plug on the computer for signs of corrosion.
Good Luck Frank
