on my 06 the brakes shimmy sometimes. Is this rotors? If it is is it covered by the factory warranty? Or should I just upgrade to a better rotor off the aftermarket? Should I just replace the front or go all four? I don't use the truck for towing very much, and it's mainly my daily driver. Any help is, as always, appreciated. Thanks
It might be a calliper if it doesn't do it all the time. My 2001 had intermitant shimmying and i replaced front rotors and pads and unseized the callipers. a few weeks later it started again so i knew it wasn't the rotors.
Mine does it on occasion, usually while driving in the mountains. I told the local dealer when I had about 10k. They said they turned the rotors and sanded the pads. It accomplished nothing I could notice. The next trip to the mountains, it did the same thing. When it went in for the next service and I told them about it, they said it was a wear item and had too many miles for warranty to cover (about 24k - 28k). I only have about 34k on it now and when it is time to change pads, I will change to aftermarket rotors as well. It is not the dealer where I bought it.
From what I have experienced Ford will only warrenty brake issues for 12/12 since it is a wear item. Yes they will sometimes goodwill the repair but from what I have read and experienced it is a dealer call. Every manufacturer has problems with rotors and pads. Since most of the OEM rotors come from China, well........

Thats not entirely true....Waupaca foundry in Waupaca Wisconsin makes almost all of the rotors for GM....and i heard they made Ford rotors in a different foundry but couldn't confirm that anywhere
my front rotors on 05 scab were made by Bosch. But replaced under TSB, thru models made 11/29/04 (i believe that is the date). Mine was an early 05 made in Oct. 04. So it was covered. If a dealer can associate a TSB with your problem,,,then they are more likely to cover it. Or try another dealer. Im suprised at the diff. in how dealers handle customer problems/complaints. Thats the only TSB on rotors as i know of, of this body style. paul
Waupaca or Bosch. Do not take this wrong but the name does not mean where they are actually made. General Motors and several of the other Manufactures make autos in China. And dont kid yourself China does not honor many import trade agreements. So these vehicles are soley Chinese sourced. If the rotors for FoMoCo are in fact made in the USA than Waupaca needs to ramp it up. I have had a 96,97.2000,2003,2005 and a 2008 F-150 and all of the rotors suck. I know how to use the brakes so it is not a user error. Sorry if I am off topic but I have the original rotors on my 442w30 of 39 years. This is a 4,000lb car with over 500 ftlb of torque, and this car has gone fast and stopped fast many many times. Hell the LS has never been taken apart either.
Its really hard to tell....do you do alot of highway miles or is it all city....if its all highway then thats not bad.....if you do all city driving thats exceptional....
