Zf gear ratio
Looking at replacing M5OD and before I buy the ZF I was wanting to get the gear ratio's for all the gears or at least OD. Also regearing rearend and need to make sure it will work.

After about 3hrs on the web I found these 3 ratios used in the ZF on Ford Trucks.
5.72, 2.94, 1.61, 1.00, .76 used on diesel
4.65, 2.60, 1.53, 1.00, .77
4.14, 2.37, 1.42, 1.00, .77
How do you tell the ratio on the tranny. Is it on the identification tag. And just to see what ratio in what truck. If you know the ratio can you post the engine behind and tranny code. Thanks to those who have helped.:-)

Total Ratio 4.14-0.77
Build Date 08-06-90
Drivers Door sticker shows
Trans code C
This is the factory trans out of a 91 F-250HD Dsl. 4x4

I should also mention that even though the dsl trannies had the 429/460 bellhousing pattern, they are not drilled for mounting the stater.
So they will bolt to a 460 but, there won't be anything to bolt the starter to.

The 96shop manual lists these ratios for the ZF S5-47, eirlier versions may have used other ratios:
Diesel version: 5.08/2.60/1.53/1.0/0.77//4.66 R
Gasoline version: 5.72/2.94/1.61/1.0/0.76//5.24 R
