hey there i swapped a hp 60 front into the 75 highboy and i am getting everything ready for the disk conversion, do i need the brake pressure switch? I have all the brake lines done and i put the propotioning valve in the brake pressure switch looks different than whats in there now. Mine has 2 wires while the the one on the valve only has one wire, can i make it work or dont worry about? I think the instrument cluster i am using isnt setup for the warning light so there wont even be a light if i dont plug it in.
One more thing, the brake light switch is on the brake pedal right, up under the dash?
All 1973-1979 trucks are required to have a Brake failure warning light.
Even the 1967-1972 era trucks had them. It was federally mandated.
If you willfully leave the warning system off, and a wreck occurs, you can be held financially liable for all costs and injuries. Even if the wreck was not your fault.
It's called brake system tampering.
Make sure all the warning and safety equipment works.
For what it's worth, I just looked through "Haynes" wiring diagrams from '73 all the way to '79 and they all show the same "dual brake pressure switch" which appears to have 2 wires. Is your valve/switch new or did it come from the donor truck?(What year?) If it's new, is it possible they gave you the wrong one? Or if it's newer than '79, do the newer ones just have one wire?
