Front Axle Interchangeability?
I just purchased a 1997 F-250 Powerstroke Supercab 4x4. It needs some work done from an accident that damaged the front end. I am now looking at several parts trucks that have the parts I need. My question is what years have a front axle/differential that are interchangeable with mine? My truck has the 4.10 gears. I also believe that the lug pattern on the hubs is 8 x 170. Is this correct, and what years are interchangeable? Thanks in advance for any info.

Your pattern is not 8X170, that is the SD's ('99- up). I believe yours is 8X6.5. All of the OBS trucks '94-'97 are direct replacement as far as axles and most other stuff. You can even get a straight axle Dana 60 out of a 1 ton and put it in there to replace that TTB front axle. I believe years '86-'97 but there are more I just cant remember.

For some strange reason, a lot of members on here like the TTB front axle, i personally hate it, i would but a dana 60 solid axle in the truck, 87-91 F-350 dana 60's were kingpin knuckles and are much stronger, and no balljoints to replace, 92-97 F-350 dana 60's were balljoint knuckles. The 91-97 dana 60 will have the track bar bracket allready on it, any ford dana 60 will work but you will have to weld a track bar bracket on it. The olny thing you will have to change to convert to the Dana 60 is the steering linkage. The truck will be much nicer to drive(in my opinion) and will not wear tires like the TTB will. For my 94 that i put the 60 in i put heim joints in with dom tubing to replace the factory style tie rod ends. Ballastic Fabrication makes a really nice kit...
