Locate your oil fill neck on the gear housing of your injection pump - if you stare at it from in front of the truck, the tach sensor is the big nut with two wires coming out of it that is located to the right of the oil fill neck. It takes 1" wrench to remove, and it can only be bought at the dealership parts counter, pricing seems to vary between $60 and near $90 with no apparent pattern involved.

Good info. But examine the two wires closely right at the sensor, they can sometimes be the problem rather than the sensor itself.
Also check out the great IDI page in the diesel section on here. Scroll on down the forum pages and click on Pre-powerstroke Diesel.
M.L.S.C. If it stand there and stare at the injector pump from the front of the truck will it fix it self. Thanks for the info and I just could not resist the comment.

No, it won't fix itself, I try that every few weeks and still no go - what was Einstein's definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? lol
Heh, we've all been there - check out the link I gave you and post your future diesel-specific questions there, much more likely to get a quick response this way.
