I have a 79 f150 4x4 that I have replaced the seals( both front and rear drive shaft). It seemed to stop it for alittle while ,but now it's gotten bad. It looks like it coming from the gasket that the seal it self sits in. Is it possible to get those gaskets and also while I'm there are there bearings that can be changed on the output shafts(front and rear)? Maybe they are bad and taking the seals back out? Both driveshafts have been rebuilt> thanks for any thoughts!!!
When you changed the seals, did you use a seal puller? I have seen time and again guys use a seal puller and cut a groove in the aluminum retainer, therefore providing a channel for the oil to run out of. You can change the ball bearings behind the bearing retainers, but probably not the problem. You can change the seal seating depth in the bearing retainers which will then change where the seal rides on the yoke, polish the yokes with fine emery, and replace with good quality seals, look for any grooves cut into the retainers, then finally check the t-case vent and make sure it is not plugged, a plugged breather will allow the t-case to vent through the seals, vent is on rear output side, just above rear driveshaft.
