A member at another site said it might be a sensor in the rear end ? I replaced the speed sensor a couple years ago, but the symptoms for that were ABS light stayed on, rear brakes would lock if you had to really hit the brakes, and the spedometer didn't work til 30mph, then it would bounce around.
Any ideas ?
Scott
I had experienced that problem on a 99 as well. In addition to what you mentioned, the trans wasn't getting a good signal, so apparently it went into default mode and delayed-shifted very hard until the vehicle speed exceeded 40mph. Your case doesn't sound exactly like that, but since it's simple, you may want to pull it to see if it needs to be cleaned - since it's magnetized, it tends to get covered in metal shavings that mess up the sensor's readings.
I my case, the "tran problem" happened suddenly so I wasn't easily persuaded that it was a failed torque convert like a few people were telling me. Prob not problem, but again, its very simple to check sensor and can't hurt. Unfortunately though, I did not here any unusual sounds coming from the drive train.
Just got back from my mechanic. He put the truck on the code-reader and also test drove it. Code-reader is saying that the computer is telling the transmission to shift, but the trans has its own ideas...lazy ******* !
Anyways, looks like my torque converter took a dump. I feel like I was riding on borrowed time anyways with the programmer and whatnot...
Now that I have to replace the torque converter I am NOT going to go with a stock replacement...I'm going to post another thread asking about what I should do to this thing while its out of the truck.
I hate to say this but you might want to consider a trans rebuild, 110,000 on a 4r100 is pretty good. I know you don't want to hear that but my 2 cents.

You're probably right. Since the trans is already gonna be out I might as well fix everything all at once...even the stuff that hasn't happened yet. About what do you reckon a rebuild w/ better cooler and torque converter will run (ballpark) I'm thinking the $3000 range, but I really have no clue.
I'm taking my truck to the trans shop in the morning so they can look it over. I'm very leery of trans places after I got screwed over really bad several years ago. Luckily, this shop is recommended by my mechanic who is one of the last of the honest ones.
I was luckey, I pulled the trans out and a recommended (works out of his garage) did it with a refurbished converter for $750.00. I did end up putting a solenoid pack in it but it runs good, just like new, and I had the mechanical diode blow up in mine. But yes I would figure your going to be looking at close to $3000 with your new converter and a complete rebuild.

OUCH
But...I absolutely LOVE my truck an replacing her isn't an option. I bought it when it was almost 2 years old with less than 19k on it. Other than ball joints, front wheel bearings, and this prob with the trans I've had absolutely no problems with it other than normal stuff...tires, brakes, batteries, etc.
I'll find out more tomorrow night when the shop calls me... I'll keep ya posted
