Me and my Brother-in-Law have been struggling the last 3 Saturdays trying to get my 351M installed into my 77 F150 4x4. But whenever we would mate up the engine and the tranny, it would bind up somewhere. He thought that it was the flexplate bindng somewhere on the inside of the bellhousing. But we have narrowed it down to the torque converter. I had bought a new torque converter thinking I have a C6. From front to back, the new TC is longer than the old one.
Anyways, the seller said it had a C6 when I bought the truck a couple of years ago, but the plate on the inside of the drivers door shows a tranny code of 'G' which the book translates to a C4.
So I need to determine the type of transmission I have. There is a casting number on the transmission, D5UP-7006-AA. I also have a New Process 205 transfer case. Is there any way to identify the transmission type?
Get a free catalog from LMC Truck for some good Ford parts parts, but laso it wil show you the different pans used in the different trannies. C6 rear edge of the pan has "S" shape. C4 is almost square.
