High Idle Mod ?

Quick question do those who have the high idle done... do you guys leave the toggle switch on all the time (since it only runs in park or neutral without the brake aplied) or do you guys turn it off and only flip it on when park to idle?

I only flip it on when I want to elevate the idle.

I only use it if I'm going to be sitting in the truck idling for a while or if I want it to warm up a bit quicker. Unless its really cold or really hot outside I just shut the truck off.

I would think it's not a good idea to leave it on because when you first start the truck and get out. The high idle will kick in before the engine has enough time to lube the engine with the engine oil, before the higher RPM kick in.

But it will only idle up with the parking brake engaged. I let mine idle normal for a couple minutes when it's that cold to get the fluids moving then I kick it up a notch.

don't waste the toggle switch. just use brake as switch. as far as lube goes, our engines can't start never mind run until they have oil pressure. i set mine for fast idle at night then in morning i hit command start, there is a second or two of idle before it revs up. this is at minus 20-30 celcius although plugged in, with 5w30 syn. its never shown any signs of being hurt in the least. idling up a cold diesel within reason i.e.1000 rpm won't hurt it( i work with 1000plus hp diesels that min idle is 1000 rpm) where the damage occurs is if you put it to work before temps have come up decently

I set mine up with a small black push-button under the steering wheel column plastic which activates a latching-relay that is cut-out when you step on the brake pedel.

I push and release the button, high idle kicks-in. Touch the brake pedel and it drops out and resets.

I set it up this way because I was concerned about leaving a toggle on.

that's not the true high idle we are talking about. the engine will idle up when left idling for an extended period of time or if the weather is cold. however the high idle mod the OP is speaking of puts the RPMs at 1200 which is intended for PTOs.

As for leaving it on, the RPMs kick up instantly so if you leave it on you know it and can shut it off.
