ok i have a 2000 excursion 2wd and when i put the pedal down it takes awile for it to shift, especially when entering on the freeway entrance. so im wondering transflush or filter & oil change, or worse
umm it depends how im driving. today i would say it stayed @ high rpm for about 3-5 sec. under normal driving conditions its fine, just that i was running late for an interview cuz of an accident. thnx for helping me yet again.
I would just change the fluid and filter first. You have a 2000 so you can drain the pan and the converter and only leave a quart or so in the cooler if it's not burned that won't cause a problem. The pan has a drain plug and so does the converter. The pan has a reusable gasket and the filter that just pulls out but be sure to remove the old filter gasket. If you have a flat pan you will have the small cheap filter but if yours has the deep pan with a bump in the middle of it you have the big $30.00 filter it's a better filter but not cheap.
Trouble is, this is an electronically controlled transmission.
The decision on when to shift is done by the computer, not the valve body, or any other mechanical thing inside the transmission.
If it's shifting later, the PCM thinks there is a higher load, more throttle, or some other reason to shift later.
If it's SLIPPING, or banging into gear, or something like that, it's mechanical.
Although, even banging into gear is more than likely an electronic issue.
Clean the MAF, change the fuel filter, check for vacuum leaks.
One thing to remember is that the Superduty/Excursion PCM is setup for towing. And the 2000-2001's are notorious for "learning" while you're beating on it, to keep the RPMS up, thinking you're towing something heavy.
I've noticed that with my '01, if I beat on it for a while, the shifting patterns change a little. The "adaptive strategy" thing.
Krewat is right on the shifting, it takes a few miles of hard pulling to get a hard fast shift after it learns and goes into tow mode. After I have been running around empty it goes into what I call a dog mode until you work the you know what out of it again. One other way to get it to shift firmer is to disconnect the battery and reset the computer to the stock program.
yea thinking back when i used to give it a good run it wasnt like it was these past couple days. but recently ive been driving slower, till a ricer tries racing me, glad to say they always lose. i like seeing their faces knowing they just lost to something so heavy while trying to show off to their buddies. Oh and on a side note it shifted just fine on the freeway today, maybe it just needed to learn how i drive again. (batterey had died while parked at shop) thats probly why it reset itself.
If you want to feel the the true meaning of BSEG just go hook on to a heavy trailer for a few hundred miles and them jump on the truck empty . The computer controls more than just the way the transmission works under a load the motor also runs differently. After I've been pulling our 16K fiver the truck will lay 4 perfect black strips on the pavement (DRW) but if I've been ******* it around it won't. I very rarely do this because 4 tires in the rear are expensive but I feel one coming on because they are down to the wear bars and need to be replaced anyway.
