Bad motor shake.
I have a 1983 F-150. Inline 6, Weber 2bbl carb, C6 trans. I don't drive the truck everyday, but do drive it 2-3 times a week.
Went to drive it one day. Pulled out of the driveway and it was shaking REAL bad. A few times around the block and it wouldn't stop. I parked it and started searching the site for help.
My search turned up fuel and vacuum as the 2 main causes. I cleaned up my vacuum lines a while ago so I know there are no holes in the hoses and I've been driving it since then, so I know that isn't it. Plus there is still good vacuum, I checked. I pulled the fuel line from the carb stuck it in a jug and cranked it. I get good fuel. I replaced the filter and mechanical pump just to make sure. Nothing.
It was running perfectly before this. The only thing I did recently was install an xm radio. I put in an aftermarket radio a long time ago and just spliced into that so I don't think that could have been it. I also installed a new vacuum module in the trans but have driven it since then. I had fluid in the line so I replaced the module and line. But other than that, I have done nothing to make it do this.
The shake is minimal at idle but still there. When you put it in gear it gets worse. You can give it throttle and it revs smooth. It doesn't seem to be missing. It just shakes. It's very scary to drive.
I'm at a loss, and need some help/advice.
Thanks in advance.
