New owner question

Hi guys, I just got done doing my first oil change and per the manual the engine should take 15 quarts of oil with a new filter (which i did put in) but I found after 14 1/2 quarts I am over "MAX" level. I noticed from the factory it was over as well from the day I brought it home. Is there a trick to getting all the oil out or has anyone else found that the 15 quarts end up putting it over the max line. Oh and I did run it to get the oil into the new filter.

When you drained it, did you let it sit for at least 20 minutes before starting the oil change? That could be one issue, not letting the motor oil drain back into the pan.

Better method is to put 14 qtrs in, run it, then check to make sure the oil is in the operating range.

You can also check your oil using the short stick method. Pull the dipstick, wipe clean. Then insert up to the plastic handle then pull out and read it. Highest reading on the stick is the one to go by.
