How can I get the window tape to release from the side window? I think I have the glass in the channel wrong and need to move it, hopefully without breaking it.
Thanks
I recently replaced the side and vent glass. The glass/tape had been installed for 20 years so the compression/setting was quite firm.
I first soaked the channel with dish-washing solution to soften the tape. I then used the thin blade of a break-off retractable knife to slit the tape on both sides of the channel. The tape strips were removed with pliers. Once you remove enough tape, the glass will loosen. I used a wood vice to hold the lower part of the channel to rock the old glass out.
If you recently put in new channel tape and glass, you may be able to rock the glass out after applying the soap solution.
You can also try using a pin punch on the sides of the metal channel to loosen the compression. You can use cardboard on both side of the glass to protect it it when clamping upside-down for this procedure. Otherwise, you may have to strip the channel tape.
Thank you. I never would of thought of soap. I'm having to do this inside the door. My track will not come out the top of the window opening. I have the one piece glass and the longer track. But I will give it a shot.
Thanks again
