Hi I'm having a problem noise in the right front of my 1996 Explorer XLT, a knocking sound at high and low speeds... wheel bearing ? front shaft spline ? any ideas ? many thanks in advance
Check for a loose or broken shock. This happened to me on my F150. Push up and down on the front bumper. If it makes noise that is most likely your problem. Also check your ball joints by jacking up the front end so the tires are a couple inches off the ground. Use a breaker bar or a piece of wood and pry up against the tires. if there is any play then they are worn.
Thanks for the replies, I had my wife drive the truck and I opened the door on the passenger side to have a good listen ( thank God she didnt give me a kick) the noise seemed to be coming from the center of the truck, so I thought that it was a universal or cv joint problem, I took the truck into my reliable mechanics to see if they heard the same noise and then they could point me in the right direction to have it fixed, turns out the noise was from the shield above the gas tank loosened and the balancing weights on the drive shaft were ticking up against the shield, who would have thunk ?anyways my guys didnt charge me a cent ( Nice guys ) and the noise is gone. thanks again for your inputs
