Coolant filter Question

well im getting ready to do the coolant filter mod, im gathering up the stuff to do it, but im wondering would it be ok to just tap into the heater hose and right back to the heater hose? would that be a problem?

If I understand you correctly, you want to install the filter in parallel with a section of heater hose. If that is true, you would get little to no flow through the filter since the coolant would take the path of least resistance, the heater hose.

Tap it and mount it in a remote location (next to right side battery is good choice)

You tap into the 3/4" heater hose on the right hand side of the engine (hose runs on right side of engine, actually bolted to the valve cover area) and it should return to the "TOP" 3/8" hose of the degas bottle.

Good Luck

You want a "by-pass" set-up as shown on the dieselsite.com website.

If you install it "in-line" and the filter plugs up... you have just screwed yourself with no flow to the motor or radiator.

Install it as shown and all the parts come with the kit. Noone else has installed it any other way and posted it here... so there would be no way for anyone to answer your question.

Just stick to the proven method that everyone has used.

BTW, there are two other current threads on coolant filters... why didn't you post your question there instead of a new thread????????

Nope... actually having a god day here in Kansas City.

This mod is a great mod and not one bad thing can be said for it since it was designed and sold (on any site discussed or truck installed in).

The poster's question sounded like he wanted to install it a different way or "in-line" instead of "in-parrallel"... which would be a big mistake!!!

I am just amazed (not mad) that some always want to modify the mod or start threads when there are other "current" threads on the same topic (exactully the same topic).

That's all... not mad or upset... just amazed.

But hey... to each their own.

I bought the bypass kit a couple of months ago but have "chickened out" about putting it in.
How hard was it to do?
Did you have to replace much coolant?
Any other tidbits?

Thanks for getting me off the pot!

on a scale of 1(easiest) to 10(most difficult) it's about a 3..pretty easy...take your time and put lots of rags under the heater hose before you cut it, if you haven't lowered the coolant level beforehand..

i put in almost a gallon of coolant/distilled water when I was done with mine..

i just clamped the hose off before i cut it and really didn't loose any coolant at all. the most time consuming part was i made my own bracket for the filter housing and it only took about an hour for that. simple mod after you get all the supplies.
