I filled up after the 1st full tank, I was concerned about the gas mileage read out on the dash being wrong. To my suprise, after 440 miles combined city and highway the dash said 19.7 and hand calculated it was 19.2. I was running 75 on the highway verified by my gps. The speedo reads 2mph fast per the gps.
drove about 150 miles of only interstate (72mph) after the fill up and the dash is showing 21.7 If this keeps up I'm really gonna like this truck.
Now that I've got three days of work in and almost 800 miles I can say the ride is so much better than my 250. I almost forgot I was driving a truck by the end of today and was thinking it reminded my of driving a large station wagon. I'm getting used to the headrest, I do wish I actually had captains chairs with proper arm rests. The center console and door rests on the 150 are to low to be comfortable for me.
This is a XLT SuperCrew 5.4 with 3.15 ratio regular axle. Not my choice on the axle ratio, but after seeing the gas mileage, perhaps was a good choice.
I took the advice of a forum member and sharpied the light sensor on the dash, my dash light issue is no more.
so is it sluggish? if it is it makes me wonder why they even make that combo.
This is why:

I would be interested to know how he feels about power with that ratio too. On take-off one would think that the 6 speed should compensate pretty well. My parent's Expy has that ratio and feels a little more sluggish than my truck, but that isn't exactly comparing like to like.
I have the 3.15 with the 4.6 3 valve and let me tell you, no sluggishness for me at all. I have the screw, so weight wise, he can't be any larger with the exception of the difference in engine. I would imagine he is doing fine.
I have owned a 3/4 ton chevy with the big block and this takes off much better even with the low ration axel. I suspect the only time I will notice a significant problem would be with a trailer in excess of 2500 lbs.
I have not towed yet but seat of the pants, the F-150 is like a rocket compared to my F-250 5.4 with a 3.73. I was and am still very satisfied with the 250 and the 09 F-150 is really growing on me. I feel like it will be a fine tow vehicle for the 5-6k loads that I usually tow.
My trip Wed/Thursday was all interstate, about 800# in the bed without the cover yet. I ran no more than 5mph over the limit from Charleston to Daytona and back. The interstate MPG on the dash was 21.6 and the manual calculation was 21.2 Today on the way back to Atlanta I filled up Near Aiken SC and did some hyper driving. I only ran the speed limit, used down grades to accelerate, did some safe drafting, you are not going to believe this, but when I got off at Cartersville, the dash showed 23.7 mpg. I can't wait to try it with the cover onl I've had some v6 minivans that would not get that mpg so with the capabilities of the truck, I'd say that Ford got the job done with this one.
That's pretty impressive, and that's with the 5.4. With results like that, I would imagine that the SFE wouldn't have any trouble meeting or exceeding its mpg rating.
BTW, I posted incorrectly earlier that my parent's Expy has a 3.15 ratio.....it's a 3.31.
I am getting 19.7 combined on my 09 FX4 and the best driving truck I have ever owned, next weekend we will leave the 7.3 psd home and tow the toys to west virgina with the FX4 a good test.
These new trucks seem to do well on mileage. I would have thought that they would be closer to the 04-08 range with the 5.4 engine. Sure makes me want one. I have only managed to get mid to high 17's with my 06 XLT E/C 4X4 5.4L with 3.55 LS on the highway.
I have the FX4 with the 5.4 with the 3.73 axle and my gas mileage is 14.4 MPG
When the Dodge guys say your truck is underpowered and too heavy they are talking about YOUR truck with its WHIMPY 3.15 axle! NOT MY TRUCK!
I can ride with the Dodge Hemi's and hold my head high and you can't!

Sounds an awful lot like a 12 year old referring to his dad's Ram....who can't even spell "wimpy".
Wow, comments like that make me want to trade for a Toyota. These days I'm the guy used car a truck buyers want to buy from. I keep them exactly like they came from the factory, with some useful quiet additions. I need to travel 40-50k per year in my truck and my main objective is ride comfort, economy, and highway quiet. I've got the sports cars and race karts for showing my behind to the competition and that is only on the track. Showing off for your bud's on the street is useless, and what you will find out is someone always has more speed, power, and money than you do. Burning up the pavement with your equipment may impress your 17yr old blond girlfriend, but usually not the guy you have an interview with on Monday. I recall the numb nut who rode my behind, zipped from lane to lane and pulled into my parking lot just ahead of me, only to find out a few min's later that the delivery driver job he was to interview for was not going to be his! Good luck with the Dodge boys, they don't have much to live for other than beating your Ford to the next stop light.

Them Dodge boys with their Hemi may get me on acceleration to the speed limit, but my Ford don't have to be refueled as often. And I've got 35 gallons, they don't.
