This could be a dumb question but ill let you be the judge. I have a 2001 Expedition 4x4. I recently but new front rotors and pads on. I was driving home one night and my truck was braking without my steping on the peddle. it didnt stop me all the way so i gave it some gas and it was struggling but eventualy stopped doing it. When ever it would let off, i was hearing a knock, like something was grabing or ungrabing. It happend about ten more times before i was home( which was in a 5 min span). It was applying the brake while i had my foot on the gas or when i was coasting. No warning lights or smells, so I got it home. Checked around the car, no parts missing or leaks. Yet... While i was driving i made sure i was in drive, awd, parking brake wasnt on, and it was still happening. It was definatly coming from the front, not sure what else it could be. If you got any ideas, let me know, cuz i will be tearing it apart tomorrow when i get home from work.
When it was doing this was it pulling to one side? When you got home did you feel if one wheel was much hotter than the other?
When you changed the pads and rotors did the slider pins work easily? Did the pads slot in easily?
It was not pulling to one side. all wheels were equally warm. The slider pins and pads went on easy. I looked at it today and didnt find anything wrong with the brakes. Would the ring and pinion gear have anything to do with this??????
Just a thought but what you describe could possibly be caused by the truck being driven in four wheel drive. Are you sure you were in two wheel drive at the time.
I have had that happen before, but that wasnt in. I had a shop look at it and it turns out it was the transmission. I kinda figurd that but i was praying it wasnt. So they are tearing the tranny apart and gonna see whats broken. It was not shifting in 3rd and some how i lost reverse on the way to the shop. Thanks for your help
