going to Phoenix today I had to stop in Dewey for a fuel test, DPS was checking all diesel vehicles for off road diesel and all commercial vehicles were being weighed, logs checked and DOT inspections. Just another service to repair the deficit our last Governor left us.
$10,000.00 fine for off road fuel plus possible federal fines for tax evasion!
Just wondering but on what do they stop you for? that is a search and as such i would think they would need cause. At least they do in other states ive lived in.
They had signs up on the 202 when I got stopped last year saying that all diesels need to exit so I got off and followed the signs to a check point. All they did was dip a clear tube in my tank looking for red fuel, once they saw I was clean they sent me on my way.
I'm just glad the lady that dipped my tank was short and couldn't see in my bed..... we HAD an aux tank in our bed that was in there when we bought the truck. We never used it but didn't see a need to take it out until it started leaking. Once it sprung its little leak it was leaking red fuel.... I would have been really, really upset if we would have gotten a fine for fuel that we didn't even put in the truck.
That would be a bummer but they can can only fine if the dip indicates red fuel. I had an instance where they pulled my filter to check, in Idaho because we had a drag tank in the back with red fuel in it. but I had commercial plates also . I didnt think they could randomly check a private vehicle.
