The easy way is something like the one 3rd from the top on this link. I have something very similar plugged into my 12v accessory plug by my tailgate. I leave it in year round and know the voltage at a glance. It's nice because I play the stereo quite a bit in the summer when I'm working on all my money pits and the 12" subwoofer likes to suck down the juice!

I have this one in my truck. It works fine but definitely isn't high quality. I need to mount it and get the compass set as I have it just sitting on the dash now. I do like the digital readout for volts as I watch it when I am waiting for the glow plugs, then starting and watching for the GPR to cycle off. Without a volt gauge, I really feel lost as far as voltage status.

With a 2002 you can read volts from the odometer, but it's not a full-time deal. Resets to mileage every key cycle. To read cool stuff with a 2002 & up odometer, push & hold the reset button, then turn on the key and wait for the gauges to reset. Let go, and you can then press it & cycle through a bunch of stuff, like digital tach, battery V, lots of other stuff that I really don't know what they mean (some kind of hex-data, etc.)...

Found this thread searching for the same question as the OP.
Is there any disadvantage in tapping into a hot versus switched-hot for the voltmeter?
Will it cause a battery drain if hooked into an unswitched source?

Thanks, that's what I figured.
I'm thinking of adding one more gauge to pyro, boost, trans temp, water temp, and voltmeter.
What's relatively easy to tap into? Don't think I want to deal with fuel pressure at this point, maybe later. I have an FS2500 so I've already tapped into those oil access points.

Where would someboby find a list of everything thats shone on the odometer readout? I've heard of this before but don't what to try it and then do something that I can't undo. I can't even find anything about in myFord service manuals I have on DVD-ROM.
