A quick easy way to check to see what side of the UVCH is the problem is to start the truck and see which exhaust manifold is "cold" If the connector is completly off then that bank wont fire.

that reminds me... my harness is burned, but I haven't changed it since I have a glow plug filament stuck, and I don't want it to just burn up the new harness. anyone know how to get it out? I've used pliers, shot it with penetrants, and I've been driving it like that for a few months now. I'm sure the truck would run better if I changed the harness. Thanks....

back to the real issue... Evan, did you get anywhere with the truck yet?

I'm still in Cali... I"ll be back wednesday afternoon sometime. I don't have a code reader either so I"ll try the "feel the manifold" test.

I'll update when I figure it out...

Jose, you can also use an "Infra Red, no contact thermometer" to check the manifolds, particularly if you have run the engine prior.

you can spray the manifolds with water when the truck is cold, and a dead cylinder will evaporate after the others when you start it up. IR gun is definitely the way to go, though.

my work schedule is insane right now, but I might be able to make it out there with a borrowed scanner and IR gun after you get back.

Luckily I actually HAVE an "Infra Red, no contact thermometer" that a VERY GOOD friend gave it to me.

If you unplug the external connectors one at a time ,one wont make any difference in the way it runs ,, that is the bad one ...

Just got back from Cali... Looks like the plug is burned up on the main harness that plugs into the valve cover

I don't have pics up yet but it's the plug next to the oil fill cap. Two of the contacts are totally burned up.

How can I fix this? I can replace the harness under the valve cover... what about the piece outside the valve cover???

Both of the harnesses under the valve cover on the pass. side are burned out. Along with the front plug on the outside.

Can I splice in a new plug on the outside harness???

they sell splice kits on ebay for a reasonable price. i'll see if I can find the link. I need to fix mine too, if I can get the glowplug tip out... which reminds me, you need to make sure your gp's are good, or else you'll burn the harness up again.
