which gauges to use
There's three ways to go here: You can buy the nice looking new gauges the guys pictured in the clusters above; you can convert your stock oil pressure and temp to mechanical gauges and use a voltage reducer for the gas gauge; or you can convert your stock 6 volt electric gauges to 12 volt by installing the reducer on the back of three of them (gas/oil/temp - amps is a simple induction loop that needs no conversion it will work as is with 12 volts but when switching to negative ground, you will need to reverse the flow direction of the wire).
I have a gallery that shows how to convert the oil and temp to mechanical gauges. There is a MS document I wrote that has the provedure spelled out. If you are interested, send me a PM with your real e-mail and I'll send it to you. it's fairly simple - involves a little trimming of the cases but still very straightforward.
For the last option, all you would do it install three little voltage reducers on the backs of the stock gauges. These guys cost about $20 and you will need 3 of them. It's very easy to do.
I think Mid Fifties sells a one shot package that converts all the gauges with a single unit, but I have heard it gets very hot. I converted my oil/temps to mechanical and used the reducer on the gas gauge - it works perfect!
Here's a picture with a part number for the reducer from the C&G catalogue:
Good luck!
