My Bronco has been setting up for a while. I just got it started, but it just runs a few seconds. There is not much pressure at the rail. Is there a way to test both the high pressure and low pressure fuel pump?
yeah there is an easy way to test it. 2 options, you can either buy a test kit(which are very cool tools) or you can get one loaned to you from autozone. they have a plethora of different fittings which you connect to the fuel rail on the top of your engine. it looks like a tire valve towards the front of the fuel rail, which is the line that feeds your injectors. your fuel pressure should be in the high 30's around 38-41 psi(at least thats what my 96' is) there is a book that comes with the fuel pressure test gauge that shows the specific pressure for your application. first you bleed off the pressure by pressing the needle valve in. a little fuel will leak out, dont be concerned. then hook up the gauge with the appropriate size adapter fitting. then once its hooked up, start your engine. in your case since the engine wont run, start it and once it dies, leave the key on. press the pressure release button and take note of the reading. it will show the pressure your pump is putting out. if you have crappy pressure, first change your fuel filter, then check the pressure again. if that doesnt help, check your fuel pressure regulator, and change it if its bad. its in the back of your engine connected to the fuel rail. you can get one that lets you set your own fuel pressure, or get one that is auto. I have heard that its possible to get an extra 10 horses and some extra torque by hitting the "sweet spot" of pressure, but I dont know what it is for a 351. a 460 is 41p.s.i. if your pressure regulator is good or it still doesnt have good pressure after you changed it, then move to your pump, since thats the most expensive part of the fuel system, hence being the last thing you replace. hope this helps its what I did when I had fuel problems
There are 2 fuel pumps on the 88 bronco. The one in the tank is low pressure. The other pump is on the frame rail behind the front driver's side wheel. I will check the relay & change filter first. Thanks
