i was not referring to your comment.it was another post that said twist and tape, i agree of twisting to test, them crimp them together.sorry should have been more clear.
Yep, AM Mono radio only. The two black speaker wires are "Positive, negative"
For use with the dash speaker only. You could get a impedence mismatch if you hook more than one speaker to it. That could overheat and fry the amp inside the radio, if you are unlucky.
If you want AM/FM stereo, you need to look for a radio like this... The Top Radio is a Factory AM/FM Stereo, and the bottom is a Clarion spec II Aftermarket Ford Replica.
LightBlue/Red stripe == dimmable dash backlight
Yellow/Black hash == switched power supply, I believe 15A but not sure.
The black with colored hash marks are speaker wires.
Ground is the big bolt in back.
Hopefully, 81-f150-explorer will be by sometime to confirm, he's got all wiring diagrams.
The radio grounds through the dash and the rear bracket, and the antenna cable. The bracket that is bolted to the stud at the back, makes contact with the dash and grounds this way. If your dash is rusty there, clean it for good ground contact, or add a ground wire.
Factory installation of the radio didn't use a seperate ground wire beside the antenna cable.
this may be a stupid question but do i have to solder the wires together or can i just twist and tape them?
Only solder and shrink wrap wires that are to be permenently connected together.
Something like this radio, you will want to get the appropriate factory type connectors, (Preferable) or use aftermarket seperable insulated male/female blade crimp connectors, for ease of removal if there is a problem later.
