DTC code clearing?

I recently fixed the cause of my check engine light being on, but it won't turn off. How long does it take before it clears itself, or how can I clear it short of hooking it up to a scanner?

A tuner will clear it - or run by autozone and they can as well (IIRC)

I read that disconnecting the battery then holding down the horn will clear it. The horn emptys the capacitors of any current that lets the PCM store its memory, but all memory and idle control, shift points and stuff will be reset, but will be relearned after a few miles of driving. Will it the CEL clear automatically after some driving?

I think the CEL will cancel itself after a certain number of drive cycles....easier to just lift the grounds off the battery (s) and turn on the headlights for 10 sec or so and be done with it. If the CEL comes back on, it ain't fixed!

Exactly what I did, as well as pressing on the horn. CEL still hasn't come back on
