Hello every one,
We just took the 04 X to the dealer to get new tires and I told him I need e load range tires. I get home and I don't see a rating any where but the max PSI is 40? WTF It says max is 40 I thought load range e is 80 PIS?
So this is not an e load range tire right?
Thanks
Nick
It has to be on the sidewall of the tire somewhere. Thats DOT required, right? Check the inner sidewall, too.
Check the paperwork that you got from the dealer, that should say exactly what you got. If the paper and the product don't match, there's a problem, but if you signed for the D range tires you're going to have a harder time getting the higher rated tire.
By law it is required to have a load range "E" tire on your truck. Of course this is a blue law and isin't adhered to by most. Many individuals are experienced in the fact that they are aware of the load capacities or limits they will be using their trucks for, thus they will in many instances install the "D" range tires which technically is acceptable. Many high end tire service facilities will only install the "recomended" load tire as well as size. I have seen several places refuse to install anything less than is required by the vehicle manufacturer.
I think most E rated tires are 80 PSI max. Most D rated are 65 PSI max, and most C rated are 35 PSI. But that is not universal. Since a 40 PSI falls somewhere in between, I'm not sure what that would be.
How about posting the tire info so we can look it up?
Well I just saw this they gave me P not LT tires so I am going back to get the right tires on it. He tried to screw us over
I would try to leverage a potential report to the CA-BAR into a discount on the replacements. They will probably be considerably more expensive than what he sold you. Their screw-up could have cause fatalities.
The lowest psi I have every seen on a D tire is 50. I would guess you have Load C tires. That is freakin scary. How in the world does a tire shop not put at least LT load D tires on a 6,000lb vehicle is beyond me.
Once you get this settled I would find a different tire shop.

the C rated on our dodge are 50psi tires. but it makes sense if they are P tires to only be 40... *sigh* some people are just dumb.
