79 f100 backup lights

i recently bought a 79 f100 automatic with plenty of wiring problems. i fixed most of them but cant find out whats wrong with my backup lights. the neutral safety switch works and the backup lights dont flicker as i move the shifter around so i dont think its misalignment to the nss. i pulled the transmission to rebuild and discover burnt wires going to the nss and replaced the burnt sections i found. i thought this would have solved any wiring problems and put the tranny back in. i was wondering if its possible to completley rewire the nss without replacing it or if anyone has a suggestion to what else could be causing the problem. any help would be appreciated.

check to see if u have a two prong plug with a jumper plugged into it..... should be located where ur wiring harness comes out of ur firewall by the master cylinder. on manual transmissions that is where u plug ur backup light swith to, on automatics it should have a jumper

Same problem but without the wiring problems, still trying to solve it. Same year, 79 F-100 sb.

urs wont have a male end if its not already in there.... just make u a piece of wire about 2 1/2" long and crimp a flat blade terminal on each end and plug one blade into each side of ur female plug. but u also want to make sure one side of that plug is hot when u put it in reverse with the key on. if not then u will have to trace back to ur nns switch to find the problem.... if it is hot on one side plug ur jumper in, then check ur lights they should be working.

okay????? should be four wires going to ur nss...... 2 blk/red and 2 red/blu.... i really dont think u can wire it wrong if u matched color to color.... might have just run the current through it backwards .... but still would have worked. should be just brass contacts inside for the different positions....check to make sure u didn't connect the blk/red to the red/blu..... if u didn't i think maybe ur nss is shorted inside.

sorry i just dug a little deeper in my schematic and there is only one blk/red the other one should be wht/pnk.

here's how the wires go... red/blu wire starts at ur ignition switch(start position) goes to ur nss(through either the park or neutral contacts) then on to ur starter solenoid. the wht/pnk starts a ur back up light fuse and goes to the nss(through the reverse contact)comes out of the nss as blk/red , goes through that 2 prong plug and jumper back to ur backup lights.
